I don't know if this is used in more places, but at least in Win32 it's
heavily used.
Though the Win32 compilers of today don't complain about this, AFAIK it
is not allowed according to the standard and will possibly break when/if
the compiler vendors get their compilers up to date.

Any views on if this should be fixed, or if we should allow it for now?
