*Instead* of HTML? We'll have both PDF and (X)HTML output. Perhaps even AbiWord
output.

pdfLaTeX, yes.

"Too many", in what way? What is the disadvantage of doing it this way?

We only have to run a simple script (a DOS batch file actually), and the LaTeX
and PDF documents are automatically generated. See <URL:

how the finished product could look.
