How can I change how numbered headings are numbered ?

I think the style dialog needs to be enhanced, I could not figure out how to change the numbering format for numbered headings.

Also, Why are there headings and numbered headings, should'nt it be enough with numbered headings, called headings, where the numbering style could be no numbering ? I think that is more intuitive.
