con.lict only -devel packages, because they both have xml-config script (and
maybe others). the libraries themselves do not conflict. Another option
would be to depend on latest version of libxml -- 2.3.0, where that conflict
was solved (by renaming config script to libxml2-config) which was released
today and of course no distribution has packages for it (but how much of
them have gal?)

Not using libglade does not mean that you cannot use glade for designing
dialogs. There is two ways to save glade project -- 1) into a .glade file for
loading with libglade, and 2) generate .c source from it. Using some
diff&patch magic it may be possible to keep designing on glade.
