I think cross-platform is the _whole_point_ behind why I think AbiWord is a good
thing.
And even if you're a Linux fan, most companies that use Linux are mixed shops.
There will be a lot of people (and usually those who are in a decision-making
capacity) who use Windows. If the company is able to standardize on a single
word processor that every user at the company can use, you will put an end to
Microsoft Word in the long run.
On the other hand, if all users at a company cannot share documents between a
single word processor (forget about file format import, for real use you need
native processing), then you'll find that Windows wins out because the people in
charge are all running it. They may ultimately require that their Linux users
switch back to Windows, use NT Server instead of Linux, etc., just so everyone
can have good document compatibility.
I'm not saying XP coding is easy. But it's worth the extra effort.
