I've heard that song before :)

I personally use 80 char wide windows for everything. Just a habbit, I
guess.

But if I were to use a 1600x1280 desktop, 7x7 font and use the entire
width for comments and code, wouldn't it annoy you?

So IMHO we need to cater for the lowest common denominator - and that
is probably 80 char wide displays.
