The leftruler was removed from the unix/gnome builds when I implemented
it. I hope it has not crept back in.
I also left the top ruler and left/right margin controls in place because
people spend a lot of time getting indents and margins right. This seemed
a reasonable compromise between true WYSIWYG and extra space for typing.
