SuSE 6.0, with updated kernel (2.2.12) and libc (6.1).
zlib is 1.1.4. Discovered I had to specify "--with-zlib=<dir>" in the
configure script for one of the subprojects, because it wasn't being
referenced by the linker for the dynamic build of AW.
I'll add this info to the bug report (3099).

I appreciate this...
I suppose there's no need for you or anyone else on the dev team to
chase down bugs on older Linux distros...if you could give me an
idea of which libs are in conflict, I can probably look into it from
there.
