No, not yet.
Bidirectional script (left to right or right to left) is supported.
More international language support is planned with work being done to add
FreeType first and then Pango support being added to abiword (as part of
the development of v1.2/v2.0). Pango supports vertical text.

I dont know, hopefully one of the developers can provide more
details for you, and clarify or correct what I have said.
Your help is very welcome. It is great for abiword to have more people
who understand non-Latin based langauges.
