In general roots of words in Polish differ from English one.
Below there are some examples (English --> Polish translation):
Denmark ==> Dania
Dane (a man) ==> Duńczyk
Danes (all or men) ==> Duńczycy
Dane (a woman) ==> Dunka
Danes (women) ==> Dunki
Danish ==> Duński
