    Turn off gtk double buffering which was cousing weirdnesses.

    There is something very weird with how gtk double buffering was
    interfering with xft builds. This should fix those issues rui reported
    as well as strange bits of menus.

    There is something wrong the status bar. It is getting blanked on view
    notify events.

    I #if 0'd out some code in fillLayouts that did piecetable
    manipulations.

    This should called after _showDocument if it's necessary.
