internationalization files

Sorry if this is already obvious, but once I have built a language-specific
file, such as yi-YI.po (that is, Yiddish/YIVO), how do I process it so that
AbiWord finds the internationalization when I start it up? I guess I need
to know how to build the relevant .mo file and where to put that file.
