Ok, RMS's experiments with the .._About.glade file caused this. I
reverted the file back to 1.2, and all seems to be well. Gnome builds
were/are unaffected (or at least they shouldn't be), since they don't
use the glade file.
RMS: I hope you're embarassed. :-)

shown twice in GTK+ builds.
