    VERSION RANT: Really, 1.99.3 is probably much better (but you better
    save often) than the 1.0.x line. You should try that version, specially
    because we're in the last run for 2.0.0 and bug reports are quite handy
    :)

    Now on topic... If you want to build from rpm, then I suggest getting
    the source rpm and working your way from there.

    One way to do so is going to http://savannah.gnu.org/download/abiword
    where you can find some releases.

    Not being able to make rpms from standard release tar ball is not a
    serious problem, although very handy when it works and I've put some
    libraries working like that already.
