Hi all:
I think i may have found the underlying problem regarding abiword not
finding fonts.
The problem is not really with the bitmapped fonts, nor is it with
having abi's versions of ttf fonts as some solutions might have suggested.
The problem definitely is somewhere in the font mapping code, however, i
found that building the font-config cache seems to work regardless of
whether one has /path/to/X11/lib/X11/fonts in the fonts.conf or not -
nor does it matter if you have pcf.gz files lying around or not, the
code ignores them correctly.
So, before trying anything else out, please attempt the following as
super-user:
# fc-cache
I have tested and verified this on a very standard platform built all
from original sources:
linux-2.4.18 glibc2 gnome-2 (garnome-0.20) fcpackage-2.1 and the abiword
cvs image as of Friday 7, 2003.
Cheers,
Ahmed.
