    To get you going here are the steps I have done so far to try to get it to build:
    - get and compile fribidi
    - add the include directory path for fribidi to the makefile definitions
    - sort out the LIBXML makefile definitions (I have commented them out just to
    get going)
    - set the compiler to be less strict using the flags from the 1.0.0 build (at
    least disable -Wall -W -ansi -pedantic)
