Hi

I had to remove dust from "PostScript for dummies" and look at this
annoyance.
I think I deserve a beer paid by plam next time I meet him :-)

This fix a total breakage of image printing in GTK build (bug 5676).
It also remove the spurious assert that was place and mistakenly
reported in the same bug.

Please, dom, martin, review and let me know.

mg: this is HEAD specific.
