Plugin putting an icon on the toolbar

Hello all -

    I've written a small plugin (thanks to the IRC gang for your help)
for making it easier to type in Esperanto, to go along with the
Esperanto-translation .po file I'm working on. It works fine...
however, the user is probably going to want to toggle quite frequently
between Esperanto and their native language.

    It would be pretty ugly to deactivate/reinstall the plugin every
time you needed to switch, so what I'm envisioning is a button on the
toolbar. When it's pressed, the plugin does its thing... when it's not
depressed, the plugin idles. However, the API for creating a new
toolbar icon is all that well-documented, and I'm really struggling to
get off the ground with my effort. Are there any examples of plugins
out there that do this, which I could peek into and borrow from?
