For example: there was a crash in stable that occured when you had a
selection, and switched views. This was fixed in HEAD by quite a but of
code reworking. This rework could not be done in STABLE, due to the size
of the patch and the accompanying API changes. Hence, STABLE was fixed
in a different way. You wouldn't want that fix to be merged into HEAD.
