Forwarding to the list so that the message gets archived.

Really what you (Judith) need is a Mac expert rather than an Abiword
expert but hopefully Hub or one of the other Mac users will know the
answers.

Ho, ho. No, these are self-contained documents (essays, book reviews,
notes from meetings) and not just information. They have a fair amount
of formatting - but I hasten to say that I've received other formatted
MSWord documents that came through intact as MSWord files.

I've rooted and rooted, but for the life of me I can't find a
preference setting for this kind of thing in this OS's version of Mail.
Nor can I find such a thing in System (that is global) Preferences.
Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I remember older OSs that
allowed you to select 'protocols' for dealing with different kinds of
files. Darned if I can find one now.

Good to know. Frequently the green lines appear in baffling places. I'm
a writer by profession and a pretty good copy-editor, so I keep my own
MSWord grammar checker off. Didn't know AbiWord had one.

Heh. No, seriously, the on-board help program doesn't help at all in
this case.

Most certainly. Thanks for the encouraging words.
