Hello Alexander,

sorry, that it took some time to answer, but my Grandpa died a few weeks
ago and now we are
a little busy with all what is to do after such a sad happening...

Sure, it would be a nice idea to help you first with the English manual
that it gets ready, before I
will translate it to German language and I would be glad to be one of
the authors of the Abiword
User's Manual. so you could give me some keywords and headwords for
categories, that are
still missing and I could try to write an article for the manual about
it, with the help of the old and
the new unfinished manual
Mar already gave me the link to the SVN trunk of the new Manual and I've
had already take a look
at it....
AND THERE is my problem: it is written in the docbook.xml format... HTML
and maybe XML
too is not really a problem for me, but I'm using Windows XP
professional and have currently no
Unix or Linux based OS installed (I have plans to put a debian based
Linux, Solaris and maybe
FreeBSD or PCBSD on it, but it will take a while..)
I tried all, but I couldn't find any program for Windows that gives
support for docbook XML files
except OpenOffice - but I couldn't import the Abiword.xml file.
So I can only edit the text in the XML file without taking care of any
format tags or something else
cause I didn't want to learn the specifications and all the special tags
for the docbook format, cause
it is to rarely needed to have all this in mind ;)
Another possibility for me would be to edit the manual as plain text
only with leaving out all the
tags or converting it in standard HTML format (I've found a windows
command line tool and a
web-based tool for doing it - yeah ;))
Any other tips or suggestions? Or some ideas how to configure OpenOffice
to use it with the
Abiword User Manual? (I tried it with the portable Version - maybe this
was the mistake)
If there is no other way I maybe could use my favourite toy ;) the
KNOPPIX-DVD if the needed
packets for docbook are included there and boot my PC with it to edit
the manual,...

Anyway, I would be honoured to help with writing the new Abiword Users
Manual and translate
it to German afterwards.

Regards Marc

P.S.: I've read somewhere on the Abiword site about the Abiword-IRC
channel - do you use
it sometimes? so we maybe can discuss it in a chat,...
