Hm. Doesn't AbiWord have a LaTeX plugin? Of course, LyX can use
Enchant if they want; I know of other projects that use Enchant.
I'm not seeing LaTeX being used for anything except being converted to
other formats (like PDF or HTML), but perhaps I'm just not aware of its
real-world application.
