Text files are executable

Many text files in the cvs distribution are showing up in my tree as
executable. TRADEMARK.TXT, COPYRIGHT.TXT, COPYING and README.TXT are just some
examples.

This is not really a problem, except that it prevents me from reading them with
a single click under KDE.

I just wonder why this might be. Could it possibly be due to files coming
from an NT system?

It's a stretch but I can see where this sort of thing might cause trouble down
the road.
