normally, i use the #expr, but i snarfed the __STRING from the
gnu header file. oh well. i'll make the changes you suggested.

most of the #ifdef'd code _EditMethods is going to move in the
next few days as i put in the dialog framework -- and remove the
DLGHACK section :-) the new version won't have any ifdef's...

i'll try to get everything else folded in one way or another asap.
