you can turn it off in your AbiWord profile.

[AbiWord.Profile is in ~/.AbiSuite on unix and
in /WinNT/Profiles/<your_login>/AbiSuite on WinNT]

edit the file with your favorite text editor
and [1] rename '_builtin_' to 'custom' in both places
and [2] change "AutoSpellCheck" to have value "0"
and restart AbiWord.

eventually, we'll have a preferences/options dialog....

alternatively, if you have a "dutch.hash" ispell file, you
could put it in the AbiSuite dictionary directory
and change "SpellCheckWordList" in the profile to name it
rather than "american.hash".
