We tried to setup the 'live' CVS access identically to
the mirror, but it didn't work.

You'll have to switch the path to your CVS root for anonymous
access. CVSROOT now needs to be:

:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.abisource.com:/u2/cvsroot

note the slight difference in the path spec at the end.

This one should work. Sorry for the problem.
