Agreed. Just like PNG is our native raster format, our intent all along has
been to use SVG (or an interesting subset thereof) as our native vector
format.

Matt Kimball took a brief whack at this a while back, but IIRC he decided to
let other implementations mature rather than rolling his own.

PS: As a thought experiment, it might be interesting to see how much of a
spreadsheet's plotting needs could be cleanly represented by the current set
of SVG primitives. Just thinking ahead... :-)
