This was bug #319, and was fixed in 0.7.8 by Bruce Pearson

Yes, we are. Again, AbiWord 0.7.8 has made some great leaps and bounds in
this area, and 0.7.9 should be better still when it comes out in the very
near future. If something doesn't work in AbiWord 0.7.9 the way you think
it should, drop me a line.
