This commit makes preferences work with LibXML2 (finally!). The code
was using DOM, and did it wrong, meaning that the preferences weren't
parsed correctly. This changes it to use SAX, and it's actually tested
which I'm guessing isn't true about the DOM implementation of reading
in prefs using libxml2.

This should bring libxml2 support up to par with expat.
