Paradoxically, this will make transfers *faster* for people. First, if
you are just downloading the abidistfile.tar.gz, it's already zipped. And
if you are updating it from CVS, it only has to download the changed
sections. Whereas, if the files are zipped in CVS, they have to be marked
as binary, and then any change to them requires your CVS client to
redownload the whole file. So this should make life faster for everyone.
