I have look a bit at this,
if we use GNUmakefile as the name for
autoconf/automake generated build system
we can leave the current build system intact
and work away on autoconf w/o disturbing anyone
not interested.
GNU make looks for default makefiles in this order:
GNUmakefile || makefile || Makefile
so what is needed as a first step is a configure.in
in abi/ or abi/src/ and a GNUmakefile.am for every
source directory containing xp and unix source.
