As defined in X Consortium XLFD, charset name should have two parts :
CHARSET_REGISTRY and CHARSET_ENCODING fields. So, for
"KOI8" Registry family there are a lot of Encodings :

KOI8-R, KOI8-U, KOI8-RU, KOI8-1, KOI8-5, KOI8-UNI, KOI8-CS e.t.c.

AFAIK, only KOI8-R and KOI8-U oficially registered (RFC-1489, RFC-2319).

Howewer, there are very old and rare used charset "KOI-8" (as is). See :
