Patch from Gilles Saint-Denis:
1. Fixes for bugs 710 and 455
2. Allows the user to abort the installation if an error occurs
3. Verifies last modified date of files being overwritten during
installation
and allows the user to choose which (if any) newer files are to be
overwritten
