Then why:

(a) does the FAQ state:

"The AbiSource solution is to keep a copy of scalable Type 1 fonts locally,
Therefore, AbiWord can use only Type 1 fonts."

(b) Does the program refuse to run without the Abiword fonts in the font path?

Otherwise I receive the message:
"Abiword could not load the following font or fontset..."

And Abiword aborts.
