Are we going to use a dictionary-based system? If so, can we use

There are also some issues to deal with about the fact that you'll
be adding "virtual" data to the stream during measuring and rendering - and
that WILL impact performance and also increase complexity in those
routines. (that's not to so say that it isn't worth it, just pointing out
issues).

Dom and I have been talking about tables, though definitely post
