In previous versions, Word allowed/supported the <alt> numeric keypad
entry of any ASCII character, but that feature does not exist in Word
97, and I'm not sure whether it was in Word 95. That, or some similar
simple method to enter the unusual characters is helpful.
Eventually, I hope the setup of all keyboard shortcuts is configurable
in AbiWord (maybe it is already?). Word (97) does not allow you to
configure every keyboard shortcut, and they've defined some shortcut
keys with each of the "standard" key prefixes (<alt>, <ctrl>,
<alt><ctrl>, <alt><shift>, and <ctrl><shift>, -- all except (IIRC)
<alt><ctrl><shift>), so it's hard for a user to set up a consistent
prefix for defining all of his own custom shortcuts (unless he has a lot
of fingers). If not all shortcut keys are configurable, maybe we can
reserve a "namespace" (like <alt><ctrl>) for a user's custom shortcut
keys. (Although I'm sure, when we consider the space of all existing
defined shortcut keys, including vi, emacs, ..., we will not be able to
find any simple combination that is not already commonly used by some
group of users because it is used in their favorite program.)
