Becoming multilingual in Oz is a bit more daunting than elsewhere: I
don't relish the though of having to master, say, Walpiri or
Yankuntjajara. Unlikely we'll find someone who needs to have an
aboriginal language interface in the near future.
Jokes aside, I know how to make friends with language and linguistics
people. We could contact university people to see if they have students
who might be interested in some sort of arrangement where the AbiWord
project offers them an internship for their trouble. Course credit is
worth money to American students who have a lot of trouble getting
internships in the first place.
Anyway, I would need to survey the situation first. How many users are
scraping by with a language they would rather not be using. How would
be willing to do a translation, but are afraid to look for the script
files -- something that could be e-mailed to them?
If anyone on the list has any other ideas, please post them.
