I guess that the issue here might be the MAC's crazy binhex encoding
to which it subjects all email attachments by default.

We really need to get some of these documents to see if this is the issue.

We should be able to automatically detect it and deal with it if
this is the problem. Please send us your unreadable documents!

Actually I might have to some of these lying around my hard disk too. It
took us ages to train Mac users to not do this.
