I would much prefer if you did not log the IRC sessions (but for all i
know Scrambler or someone else is already is logging the session).
IRC is much more immediate, casual and laid back so people can and will
discuss things that are far too offtopic for the developer list but that
are just a nice part of the fact that we are (mostly) all friends.
More important relevant stuff usually gets brought on to the mailing list
anyway, like article about gobe or stuff about Oeone (see slashdot) and
the abimoz plugin

I would just recommend instead that a deliberate effort be made to repeat
anything particularly important and relevant from IRC on the mailing list
so that it can be threaded and archived.
Aside from that you are the editor so go ahead and try things, if they
dont work you can change them to something else. Do the weekly news in
your own style (as you already have done) and enjoy it.
