Is there any way to automatically identify a symbol fonts?
If not then this sounds like it would need a lot more care and we could
get tripped up everytime someone adds a knew symbol font we dont
currently know about.

With the floating font preview you can get both the size and the style.
I you try and jam it in the menu you have the problems of symbol fonts and
you have to display it at a small size.
