however it is quite useless for ms-windows which requires a 36x36 icon,
and the 48x48 ximian icon does not scale well. (I tried, it just looked
crappy, there was no larger original available for me to work from)

on ms-windows at least you can embed many icons in the executable, it
would not hurt to embed both image sets (although it would be simplest to
just do a straight switch).
