    - Added a new function in UT_string for copy utf8 strings into a ucs4 buffer
    - Fixed encoding issues with statusbar (by always assuming that incoming strings
    are utf8)
    - Added some code to update a fixed-sized status bar element's size on UNIX if the
    "representative
    string" proves to be too small (e.g.: in german an insert mode may be EINFG or UBER, both
    of which
    are larger than XXX). Other platform maintainers might want to take a look at this.
