Ok, let's just summarize everything for the people just joining in...like me.

"In this issue" Randy returns to the "lets change the reply-to" discussion, making it the THIRD time in the past year to discuss this particular topic.

Here are the top reasons not to do this:

Ever get in such a hurry to do stuff, that you forget something? Like, for example, you leave AOL for a local ISP, and you forgot to unsubscribe the old email address from a mailing list? Suddenly, somebody who has no idea who you are gets a "user at this domain not found" message.

When you write your auto-replies for when you go on vacation, et c., do you remember to include lists in your exceptions lists? If you don't, or don't even have the option, dozens of people that week (or on the userlist, four) will know that some schmuck they never met is "getting drunk in the 'Big Easy'" and that s/he would "wish you were here."

And then, there's the universal faux pas, E. A. Zen suddenly reads your intended-for-his-eyes-only message to Alan that states, "Can you believe that pud editor of the AWN? He always forgets to upload some screenshot. Must be old-timers. Thank god we only have to put up with him once a week!" This, of course, often proves to be fatal.

With that out of the way, I would like to point out two things:

    A) The reason I put that statement in the AWN about the user list is to remind said users to reply to the list.

    B) The footer is a good place to shove this information, since, people will read it the first time.

-It should immediately call attention that it is, in fact, a very important piece of information.

-It should state what is needed in the order it is most needed.

-It should state only what is needed.

    Let me suggest this:

    ----------------------------------------------------------- NOTICE TO USER:

Reply to abiword-user@abisource.com to keep on-track discussions on the list. Review entries at http://www.abisource.com/twiki/bin/view/Abiword/AbiWordFAQ for help. If you find information you recieve from the list helpful, please add information to the FAQ via the open-to-all-users Twiki interface. To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to abiword-user-request@abisource.com with the word unsubscribe in the message body. Do have a nice day; do not go past go; do not collect $200. -----------------------------------------------------------

You may substitute the last one with a removed line, something funny, a short and random fortune or something entirely appropriate or completely useless.

    Have a wing-dingy day, E. A. Zen
