    It makes all the printed text smaller. If (for instance) I type
    something in a 14 point font, then print, it looks like I typed it in 12
    or smaller (just an estimate there). Of course, had I typed it in 12,
    it would be smaller still on the printout.

    (Offhand note on my bug report: The order of the printout size there is
    fairly accurate, though I think that I was incorrect in saying that the
    1.99.6 printout and display are the same size. That shouldn't make too
    much of a difference, though. )
