    Why not compromise...

    Wouldn't it be easier to just use major version numbers on the splash
    screen? Then perhaps use Abiword itself to add a tiny little specific
    version number underneath.

    ie in big letters "AbiWord 2.1!" and in single-pixel-stroked letters (or
    some other small font) "Version 2.1.1" in a corner.
