Not if you special case this particular situation...

Martin's already figured out a "polygonal" bounding box for the image (each
line's relative indent into the image data). That box can be easily written
out as a clipping path on the image into the PS.

No transparency flattening necessary - just clip (which is basically what is
happening on screen anyway)

Indeed, but printing RGBA to PS is a fair bit of work.
It'd be much easier to simply require gnome-print and
be done with it.
