Interesting too. One of the developers has been experimenting with new
Toolbar layouts including more compact versions so I'm sure he will take
your suggestion into consideration.
Have you considers learning to use Styles to manage how your document
looks?

The Gnome version of Abiword already includes a PDF Generator and there
are plans to include it in the GTK version too.
For windows users we recommending using PDFCreator.
