seems like a pretty huge project worthy of a whole other application

Ssh! Dont tell Hub. Maybe if it is _done right_ he wont hate it quite as
much as he hates what MSWord does.

I assume you mean like a split view both showing differnt parts of the
same document? (what Gnumeric called Freeze Panes)

Hadn't noticed it before but there is already a request for Split screen
 http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3196
(although I'm not entirely clear if the report is really asking for what I
think you want)
