I'd be very surprised if Gnumeric didn't share those same requirements and
it would really be much better if you could avoid text in the graphics.
Certainly the GIMP frequently rejected splash screens with any text beyond
the name and number.

In any case splash screens are not shown for very long and users might not
have enough time to even read the text. Splash screen graphics are often
reused in About dialogs but in that case there would be seperate spaces
for version information and descriptions.
