Well, after talking to many of you it seems that everyone agrees on option 1.
Also, this option allows Ryan or other Win32 hacker to try to make work the
unicows support on top on the Unicode build.

My approach is: 2.6 is the last version with ANSI support and after that we
switch to the Unicode only version.

I will keep working locally on this and when it gets into a decent status I
will commit it CVS (probably after 2.6 is released).

My estimation is that this will take two months or so because I have to finish
the work and also convert that I have done from using tchar.h and tchar to
Unicode WCHAR and string functions (let's do it right if it is going to be
unicode only).
